| dc.description.abstract | A field experiment was conducted with twenty five 14 genotypes of Brassica napus L. and a check variety at the experimental field of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University. Dhaka to study the variability, correlation and direct and indirect effect of different characters on seed yield per plant during November 2012 to March 2013. The phenotypic variances were higher than the genotypic variances. Genotypie and phenotypie variances were observed among all the 174 progenies for all the characters studied. The high GCV value was observed for yield per plant. Days to 50% flowering showed high heritability with moderate genetic advance in percent of mean. Yield per plant had significant and positive association with number of primary branches per plant, number of siliqua per plant. The path co-efficient analysis revealed that plant height, primary branches, days to 50% tlowering, days to 50% maturity, siliqua length, number of seeds per siliqua, 1000 seed weight had the negative direct effect on yield per plant. Number of siliqua per plant had the positive direct effect on yield per plant.Ten most promising crosses with short duration and higher yield per plant were selected from the F4 materials. | en_US |
