<title>EFFICACY OF SOME CHEMICAL INSECTICIDES IN COMBINATION WITH SUITABLE WETTING AGENTS AGAINST MANGO MEALYBUG</title>
<link>http://archive.saulibrary.edu.bd/handle/123456789/5610</link>
<description>EFFICACY OF SOME CHEMICAL INSECTICIDES IN COMBINATION WITH SUITABLE WETTING AGENTS AGAINST MANGO MEALYBUG
Amin, Ruhul
The experiment was conducted at Entomology laboratory of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural&#13;
University with the following treatments to understand the efficacy of different insecticidal&#13;
combination with wetting agents against nymph and adult of devastating mango mealybug.&#13;
The treatments consist of T&#13;
1 &#13;
= Nitro 505 EC + Petroleum oil, T&#13;
= Nitro 505 EC + Ethyl&#13;
alcohol, T&#13;
3 &#13;
= Nitro 505 EC + Detergent, T&#13;
4 &#13;
2 &#13;
= Capture 75 WG + Petroleum oil, T&#13;
= Capture&#13;
75 WG + Ethyl alcohol, T&#13;
6 &#13;
= Capture 75 WG + Detergent, T&#13;
= Imitaf 20 SL + Petroleum&#13;
oil, T&#13;
8&#13;
 = Imitaf 20 SL + Ethyl alcohol, T&#13;
9&#13;
7 &#13;
 = Imitaf 20 SL + Detergent. The study examined&#13;
the mortality rate of mealybugs by treating those combinations. Treatment T&#13;
consistently&#13;
showed the highest nymphal mortality rates across different application times, significantly&#13;
outperforming other treatments. Conversely, T&#13;
 exhibited the lowest control of first instar&#13;
nymphs, with notably fewer nymphs controlled after 48 hours compared to other treatments.&#13;
T&#13;
3&#13;
 and T&#13;
9&#13;
6&#13;
 also showed significant results in nymphal mortality, gradually increasing over&#13;
time. While T&#13;
 initially showed high nymphal mortality, it revealed statistically similar&#13;
results to T&#13;
1&#13;
, T&#13;
2&#13;
5&#13;
, T&#13;
4&#13;
, T&#13;
7&#13;
, and T&#13;
8&#13;
. T&#13;
 performed the poorest, with the lowest control of second&#13;
instar nymphs after 48 hours, while T&#13;
9&#13;
3&#13;
 and T&#13;
 also demonstrated lower efficacy. Regarding&#13;
adult mealybugs, mortality rates were lower compared to nymphs, attributed to the&#13;
development of a protective waxy layer. Treatment T&#13;
6&#13;
 showed the highest control of adult&#13;
mealybugs, followed by T&#13;
2&#13;
5&#13;
, with statistically significant differences observed. T&#13;
exhibited&#13;
the lowest control, significantly different from T&#13;
. Despite slight increases over time, all&#13;
treatments resulted in significantly lower numbers of adult mealybugs compared to the initial&#13;
12-hour application period. Overall, the study highlights the differential efficacy of&#13;
treatments in controlling mealybug nymphs and adults, with T&#13;
5&#13;
 showing consistent&#13;
effectiveness against nymphs and T&#13;
being most effective against adult mealybugs.&#13;

<title>ECO-FRIENDLY MANAGEMENT PRACTICES AGAINST CAPITULUM BORER AND TOBACCO CATERPILLAR OF SUNFLOWER</title>
<link>http://archive.saulibrary.edu.bd/handle/123456789/5608</link>
<description>ECO-FRIENDLY MANAGEMENT PRACTICES AGAINST CAPITULUM BORER AND TOBACCO CATERPILLAR OF SUNFLOWER
Akter, Tahmina
The experiment was conducted in the field of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University farm,&#13;
Dhaka, Bangladesh during the period from November 2022 to April 2023. The experiment&#13;
consists of eight treatments such as T&#13;
= Set up pheromone traps @ 12 Nos./ha and change&#13;
the septa once in 3 weeks.+ release of egg parasitoid, (Trichogramma spp).; T&#13;
1 &#13;
= Field&#13;
sanitation + Inundative release of egg parasitoid Trichogramma spp. and larval parasitoid,&#13;
Microbracon sp ; T&#13;
= Mechanical control + carbaryl 50 WP @ 2 gm/L of water at the 10&#13;
days interval; T&#13;
4 &#13;
3 &#13;
= Yellow sticky board + Restrict migration of larvae by digging a trench 30&#13;
cm deep and 25 cm side with perpendicular sides around the infested fields; T&#13;
= Yellow&#13;
sticky board + Spraying 0.2% Borax + 0.2% ZnSO&#13;
4 &#13;
@ 2 gm/L of water.; T&#13;
= Spraying&#13;
Chlorpyriphos 20EC @ 2-3 ml/L of water at the 10 days interval; T&#13;
= Spraying Anterio&#13;
(Bacillus thuringiensis + Abamectin) @ 1.5 gm/L of water at the 10 days interval and T&#13;
7 &#13;
=&#13;
Untreated control. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design with&#13;
three replications. The overall result indicates that the effect of different managements&#13;
decreased the incidence of insect pests (capitulum borer and tobacco caterpillar) of&#13;
sunflower compared to control T&#13;
8&#13;
 treatment. In T&#13;
3&#13;
 treatment,&#13;
the lowest leaf infestation,&#13;
percentage of infestation and&#13;
reduction over control&#13;
 caused by capitulum borer (3.26, 7.16 %&#13;
and 72.50%) at reproductive stage of sunflower were recorded in T&#13;
 &#13;
 treatment. In case of&#13;
tobacco caterpillar, percentage of leaves infestation at the vegetative (2.12, 8.95 % and&#13;
75.13%) and at the reproductive stage (4.58, 16.86 % and 60.43%) occurred. In case of yield&#13;
contributing characters&#13;
of sunflower, the&#13;
highest&#13;
&#13;
of head/ capitulam diameter (9.93 cm),&#13;
height of plant per plot (196.18 cm), leaf width (14.59 cm), leaf length (22.99 cm), area of&#13;
leaves per plant (67.23 cm) and n&#13;
umber of leaf per plant&#13;
(24.55), number of total head per&#13;
plot (29.83), number of seed per head (525.56), weight of single seed (1.03 mg), and weight&#13;
of seed per head (54.96 gm)&#13;
of sunflower&#13;
 were observed in T&#13;
3&#13;
1&#13;
 treatment which was&#13;
statistically different from all other treatments. Again, the highest&#13;
 sunflower&#13;
 yield (1.95&#13;
kg/plot or 2.48 ton/plot) was also observed from T&#13;
3 &#13;
treatment. So, T&#13;
(Mechanical control +&#13;
carbaryl 50 WP @ 2 gm/L of water at the 10 days interval) was an eco-friendly pest&#13;
management practice for&#13;
sunflower&#13;
 which significantly reduce pest infestation and gave&#13;
quality yield.

<title>MORPHOMETRIC STUDY ON LADYBIRD BEETLES COLLECTED FROM DIFFERENT INTENSIVE VEGETABLE GROWING AREAS</title>
<link>http://archive.saulibrary.edu.bd/handle/123456789/5607</link>
<description>MORPHOMETRIC STUDY ON LADYBIRD BEETLES COLLECTED FROM DIFFERENT INTENSIVE VEGETABLE GROWING AREAS
Rahman, Md. Mizanur
Executive Summary  &#13;
The ladybird beetle family is a significant group of beetles because they play a significant&#13;
role in biological control and are key universal predators. Ladybird beetle biodiversity in&#13;
Bangladesh hasn't been thoroughly studied geographically. In light of this, the current study&#13;
was carried out to investigate the ladybird beetle fauna in different intensive vegetable&#13;
growing areas of Bangladesh. Samples were collected from 6 distinct vegetable growing&#13;
localities of Bangladesh namely Jashore, Rangpur, Pabna, Jamalpur, Mymensingh and&#13;
Narsingdi. Collection surveys were done in these locations at intervals of fifteen days. There&#13;
are eight species according to the identification of the specimens which were grouped under&#13;
six genera of ladybird beetles. These species include Coccinella transversalis, Coccinella&#13;
californica, Coccinella fulgida, Cheilomenes sexmaculata, Menochilus sexmaculatus,&#13;
Chilocorus sp., Cycloneda sanguinea, and Brumoides suturalis. Analysis of the numerical&#13;
data revealed that C. transversalis, Cheilomenes sexmaculata, and Menochilus sexmaculatus&#13;
exhibited high levels of abundance, collected from all surveyed localities. In contrast, the&#13;
remaining species demonstrated moderate levels of abundance with the exception of&#13;
Coccinella fulgida and Brumoides suturalis those were exclusively collected from the&#13;
Narsingdi locality.
