new trend that started to spread across the nation at the turn of the century
substituted heavily processed, ready-to-cook foods for cooked meals. A total
of 110 consumers were randomly chosen for the study from the Dhaka
district's Mohammadpur and Dhanmondi neighbourhoods. The responses
from respondents were gathered from July through September of 2022 via a
pre-tested interview schedule. Using percentage analysis, socioeconomic
parameters such as gender, salary, education, occupation, family structure,
consumer awareness, and frequency of purchases were examined. Using
Binary Logistic Regression, the contributions of the variable were ascertained.
Both the number of homes headed by single parents and the desire of
consumers for processed foods are increasing. The study set out to describe
some of the characteristics of the consumers, assess how they felt about
processed foods, and pinpoint the variables that had a major impact on their
decision to purchase processed and ready-to-cook foods. The consumption of
processed and ready-to-cook meat items was the study's dependent variable,
while the respondents' seven significant characteristics made up the study's
independent variables. According to the interview poll, 67% of respondents
who bought processed food did so because they saw an advertisement from
someone else, and 92% of respondents who ate processed food were high
income earners. Only 47% of respondents were well educated. Within the
selected variables of the respondents, income, family type, medication, and
advertisements from others demonstrate a substantial correlation with the
purchase of processed and ready-to-cook foods. Therefore, the inventive firm
should consider these factors before venturing into such a business, and
producers, legislators, and those strategizing marketing campaigns for goods
with nutritional and qualitative worth ought to reconsider their decision to sell
such goods.

The trend of buying organic food is growing among consumers, particularly in urban
areas in Bangladesh. This empirical study seeks to determine purchase intention by
analyzing the effect of factors such as age, education, monthly income, price,
environmental concern, healthy lifestyle, nutritional value, availability, and
advertisement by using probit regression model. The primary data were collected from
two supermarkets in Dhaka metropolis. A total of 110 consumers were selected by
using two stage random sampling technique. Data were collected from the respondents
between August to October in 2023. The study findings indicate that consumers’
purchase intention towards organic food is influenced by several key aspects, including
the availability of organic food, adoption of a healthy lifestyle, environmental concern,
and exposure to advertising. Furthermore, a significant proportion of young graduates
and service holders have a higher awareness regarding the advantages of organic food,
which is why a majority of them choose to acquire it. Significant obstacles that restrict
the purchasing of these products include higher price, quality concerns, ambiguous
labeling, and limited availability. The study recommends that the concerned authorities
should establish a standardized principle based on FAO recommendations in order to
decrease obstacles and motivate producers and supermarket owners to adhere to it

The focus of this study is to investigate consumers’ evaluat ion of rice attributes in different
markets of Dhaka cit y. The study empirically examines the relat ionship between the retail
price of rice and its attributes in the Dhaka cit y markets, using the hedonic pricing model.
In this study, data were collected from retailers’ shop in Agargaon, Taltola, Shewrapara,
Kajipara, Mirpur 10, Mirpur 11, Mirpur-1, Mirpur-2, Mirpur-6, and Mirpur DOHS in
Dhaka cit y in 2023. A total of 200 customers were chosen by using simple random
sampling technique from different retail markets. The results illustrate that consumers pay
a premium price for observable attributes, such as white rice, aroma, glutinous rice,
medium bold grain, medium slander grain and slander grain. However, poverty level in
selected consumers in the Dhaka cit y is 5.0% in terms of head count rat io (HCR) which is
much lower than nat ional level poverty (18.0%). Taking into consideration the above
ment ioned arguments, the study suggests that the government should support rice breeders
to release new rice variet ies wit h more aroma and attractive size and shapes of rice.

RURAL WOMEN ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT IN SIRAJGANJ DISTRICT OF BANGLADESH: A CASE STUDY ON THEIR CHALLENGES AND PREPARATIONS
ISLAM, MD. FERDAUSUL
Bangladesh's women entrepreneurs face challenges in various economic sectors, including
rural and urban areas. The percentage of businesses owned by women has decreased from
12.7% in 2013 to 7.2%. Despite this, women entrepreneurs still have a significant presence
due to higher income, education, and greater societal acceptance. Challenges faced by
women entrepreneurs include cultural norms, limited access to connections, financial
difficulties, education imbalance, and work-life balance. As women make up 50% of the
population and 40% of the labor force, their economic participation is a challenging aspect
of entrepreneurship development. This study examines the socio-economic status,
challenges, and impacts of rural women entrepreneurs in Bangladesh, focusing on the
Sirajganj district. Data was collected from 100 households using a multi-stage sampling
strategy with a 95% confidence level and a 9% margin of error. Index analysis and crosstabulation

entrepreneurial experience, 33.33% had 5 to 10 years, and 25.0% had less than 5 years.
Most respondents (30.3%) operated businesses in the clothing/textile sector, followed by
beauty care (26.3%), handicrafts (23.7%), and grocery/stationery (13.2%). Factors
contributing to a favorable business environment included ‘authority over business’ (μ =
4.03, σ = 0.923), which ranked highest among both married (μ = 3.95, σ = 0.99) and single
(μ = 4.20, σ = 0.27) respondents. ‘Equal opportunities for women’ ranked second (μ = 3.99,
σ = 0.792), particularly important for single respondents (μ = 4.30, σ = 0.78). Barriers to
entrepreneurship included work-life balance (μ = 2.70, σ = 0.462), management skills (μ =
2.61, σ = 0.544), and networking challenges (μ = 2.61, σ = 0.544). Single respondents rated
faith in women’s leadership (μ = 2.71, σ = 0.46) and gender discrimination (μ = 2.57, σ =
0.51) higher than married respondents, indicating they face more significant barriers. The
study emphasizes the need for improved education, training, financial support, and an inclusive
business environment to empower rural women entrepreneurs in Bangladesh.
