dc.description.abstract An experiment was conducted to study the effect of plant spacing and nitrogen on the growth and yield of okra at the central farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka during the period from April to July 2007. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications, This experiment was conducted with two factors; Factor A: Spacing (3 levels) i.e. S,=75 cm x 20 cm, S,75 cm x 40 cm, S 3 =75 cm x 60 cm and Factor B: Nitrogen (4 levels) i.e. N0=control. N 1=50 kg N/ha. N,=100 kg N/ha. N 3 =150 kg N/ha. In case of plant spacing, the highest yield (8.20 t/ha) was recorded from the spacing S2 and the lowest yield (6.84 t/ha) was from S1 . In case of nitrogen, the highest yield (8.25 t/ha) was obtained from N 3 and the lowest yield (5.72 t/ha) was from N o . For combined eliect, the highest yield (9.86 t/ha) was observed from the treatment combination of S2N 3 which was similar (9.85 t/ha) to S2N2 . Though the highest yield was recorded from S 2N3 but on the basis of benefit cost ratio (8CR). the best (2.53) outcome was obtained from the treatment combination of S 2N2. It may he concluded that 75cm x 40 cm spacing with 100 kg N/ha is the best for growth and yield of okra. en_US
