dc.description.abstract The variability study was assessed in eleven advanced lines of Brassica rapa obtained through F: generation of different inter-varietal crosses and three popular check varieties at the experiment field of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU). Dhaka during November 2013 to February 2014 considering twelve yield contributing characters. To evaluate the advanced lines, magnitude of variations in the characters, heritability, genetic advance, correlation and direct and indirect effect of different characters on yield per hectare were taken under analysis. The characters showed significant variations among the genotypes. Genotypic variance was lower than the phenotypic variance for every character. Minimum difference between phenotypic and genotypic variance was seen in number of primary branches per plant, length of silique. thousand seed weight and seeds per silique. days to 50% flowering and days to 80% flowering. High heritability with moderate genetic advance and genetic advance in mean percentage was observed in days to 50% flowering and days to 80% flowering while moderate heritability with high genetic advance and genetic advance in mean percentage was seen in siliquae per plant and yield per hectare. Days to 80% flowering, number of primary branches per plant and number of seeds per silique showed significant positive direct association with the yield per hectare. Direct positive effect on yield per hectare was found in days to 50% flowering. days to 80% flowering, plant height and number of secondary branches per plant through path co-efficient analysis. Through this variability analysis two advanced lines named SAUSR 08 and SAUSR 14 were selected based on their better performances over the check varieties in respect of days to maturity and yield per hectare for further multi-locational trail to release as a new variety. en_US
