Abstract:
A study to obtain information on the perfonnanee and interrelationship of grain yield and yield
contributing characters was carried out using IS Aman rice genotypes. Significant variation was
observed among the genotypes for all the characters studied. The variety NERICA 10 was the earliest
in flowering whereas. 8R22 was late flowering type. The highest plant height was recorded in the
variety BiNAshail but the variety NERICA I was the shortest in plant height. The highest number of
total tillers per plant was produced by BINA dhan7 on the other hand the variety NERICA I produced
the minimum number of total tiller. The variety BINA dhan7 produced the highest number of
effective tillers per hill and the same trait was lowest in the variety NERICA I. The variety
BlNAshail produced longest panicle length and the variety NERICA tO produced the smallest panicle.
length. The highest panicle weight was recorded also in the variety BiNAshail. whereas the lowest
panicle weight per panicle was recorded in the variety NERICA tO. The highest number of tilled
grains per panicle was recorded in the variety BiNAshail but the variety NERICA I produced the
lowest number of filled grains per panicle. The highest unfilled grains per panicle were observed in
the variety BRRI dhan32 and the lowest number of unfilled grain per panicle was found in the variety
NERICA I. The highest numbers of primary branches per panicle were observed in the variety BR 10
on the other hand the lowest number of primary branches per panicle was found in the variety BINA
dhan7. The highest numbers of secondary branches per panicle were observed in BRRI dhan49 but
the lowest number of secondary branches per paniele was found in the variety NERICA I. The variety
NERICA I produced the highest 1000 grains weight on the other hand the variety BiNAshail
produced the lowest 1000 grains weight. The highest number of days to maturity was exhibited by the
variety BR22 whereas the lowest number of days to maturity was observed in the variety NERICA 10.
The highest yield per plant was produced by the variety BU I. whereas the lowest yield per plant was
produced by the variety NERICA 1. Genotypie correlation coefficients were higher than the
corresponding phenotypie correlation coefficients in most of the traits. The highest genotvpic coefficient
of variation (19.56%) was found in case of number of secondary branches/panicle.
Heritability was quite high for all the characters except total tillers/plant, effective tillers/plant,
unfilled grains/panicle, primary branches/plant. The highest heritability percentage was found agaSt
the character of days to 50% flowering and it was 98.93%. Genetic advance in percent of mean was
highest for days to 50% flowering and it was 36.03%. Grain yield per plant showed significant and
positive correlation with secondary branches/plant. effective tillers/plant, total tillers/plant. panicle
weight indicating the importance of these characters for yield improvement in this population. Path
analysis revealed that secondary branches/panicle, panicle weight, total tillers/plant, and days to
maturity had positive and higher direct effect on grain yield per plant.
