Abstract:
A research was conducted by using 27 F: progenies of Brayyica rapu and four
check varieties in the experimental fiwm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University.
Ohaka. during November 2008-March 2009 to study the variation in different
characters. correlation between pairs of characters and the direct and indirect
effect of different characters on seed yield per plant of the F2 materials From the
values of mean, range and ('V (%) of seed yield and yield contributing characters
it was confirmed that there were large variation present among all the genotypes
used in the experiment. The phenotpic variances were higher than the genotypic
variances. Minimum genotvpic and phenotypic variances were obsened among
the F2 progenies for all the characters studied except fir siliquae per plant. The
values of GC\' and pcv indicated that there was considerable variation among all
the characters except days to maturity. The high ()CV value was observed for
secondary branches per plant. The plant height and number of siliquae per plant
showed high heritability with high genetic advance and genetic advance in
percentage of mean. 33 most promising plants with short duration and higher yield
were selected from 27 crosses of the F2 populations of Brussica rapa. Yield per
plant had significant positive association with plant height, number of primary
branches per plant, number of secondary branches per plant. number of siliquae
per plant and thousand seed weight. Path co-efficient analysis revealed that (lays to
50% maturity, number of primary branches per plant, number of siliquae per
plant, siliqua length, seeds per siliqua and 1000 seed weight had the positive direct
effect on yield per plant whereas clays to 50% flowering, plant height had the
negative direct effect on yield per plant.
