Abstract:
The morphological characters. genetic diversity, genotypic and phenotvpic variance.
genotypic and phenotvpic coefficient of variation, heritability, genetic advance and
genetic advance as percent of mean were studied for 60 NPT genotypes of rice during
December 2007 to May 2008 at the experimental farm of Sher-e-l3angla Agricultural
University. Dhaka. Significant variation was observed among all the genotypes for all
the characters studied. Considering genetic parameters, high genotypic coefficient of'
variation (GCV) was observed for grain yield per plant thllowed by filled grains per
paniele, effective tillers per plant and total tillers per plant, whereas days to maturity
showed very low GCV. lEigh heritability with low genetic advance in percent of mean
was observed for days to 50% flowering which indicated that non-additive gene
cflècts were involved for the expression of this character and selection br such trait
may not be rewarding. I ugh heritability with moderate genetic advance in percent of
mean was observed for plant heiglu indicated that this trait was under additive gene
control and selection for genetic improvement for this trait would he effective.
Multivariate techniques were used to classify the sixty genotypes and six clusters
were ibrrned. Cluster IV had maximum 15 genotypes and cluster I had only four
genotypes. The highest intra-cluster distance was observed in cluster 11. The highest
inter-cluster distance was observed between the cluster I and II and the lowest was
between cluster Ill and V. Analyzing diversity pattern and other agronomic
performance, the inter genotypic crosses between 04 and 013. (34 and 027. (113 and
021. (160 and 054 may he used for future hybridization program.
