dc.description.abstract Eighteen genotypes of white jute from different geographic origin were evaluated to study their genetic variability, correlation and path coefficient with 10 different morphological characters. The experiment was carried out at the Central Jute Agricultural Experiment Station, BJRI. Jagir. Manikganj during April to October. 2006. Analysis of variance revealed significant variation among the genotypes for all the characters. Considering genetic parameters, high genotypic coefficient of variation (GCV) was observed ibr seed weight per plant Ibllowed by pods per plant and green weight. High heritability values with high genetic advance in percentage of mean Were obtained for seed weight per plant, pods per plant. green weight. stick weight and fibre weight. Correlation studies revealed significant positive association of fibre weight with stick weight, base diameter, nodes per plant, pods per plant and seed weight per plant at genotypic level. At phenotypie level similar trend also observed except seed weight per plant. Path coefficient analysis revealed maximum direct contribution towards fibre weight through stick weight followed by nodes per plant, pods per plant and 1000 seed weight. The genotype 013 (Ace.4706) showed better performance in respect of base diameter, stick weight. fibre weight, nodes per plant, 1000 seed weight followed by genotype G18 (CVF.-3) indicating the possibility of using these materials in future breeding programme. en_US
