dc.description.abstract A field experiment was conducted at Agronomy research field, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (90°33' E longitude and 23°77' N latitude), Dhaka, Bangladesh during November, 2012 to March, 2013 in rabi season with a view to find out the influence of source of nitrogen and different weed control methods on growth and yield of wheat. The experiment was carried out with four different sources of nitrogen i.e. N,,= control (no nitrogen fertilizer), N 1 urea supergranules (1.8 g) @ 60 kg N ha', N2= urea supergranules (2.7 g) @ 90 kg N ha 1 and N3 = prilled urea (92 kg N ha d ) in the main plot and four weed control methods viz. W 0 = control (no weeding), W j= two hand hoe weeding at 20 DAS and 40 DAS, W 2 = Topstar 80WP (Oxadiargyl 400 g L) @ 75 g h&' as post-emergence and W 3 = Sunrice 150WG (Ethoxysulfuron 150 g kg') @ 100 g ha 1 as early post-emergence herbicide in the sub plot in split plot design. The highest (4.10 t ha 1 ) grain yield was recorded from application of urea supergranules 1 .8g (N 1 ) and urea supergranules 2.7g (N 2 ) produced the second highest (3.64 t ha) grain yield. Urea supergranules 1.8g (N 1 ) produced highest (259.6) total tiller m 2 , the highest (305.6) effective tiller m 2 , higher (17.20 cm) spike length, highest (18.27) number of spikelets spike', the highest (53.28) number of filled grains spike d , the highest (52.15 g) 1000-grain weight. And thus it recorded the highest (4.10 t ha') grain yield, highest (5.54 t had ) straw yield, maximum (9.64 t ha 1 ) biological yield and the highest (42.34 %) harvest index. Among the weed control methods Sunrice 1 5OWG (W 3 ) produced the highest (3.86 t ha d ) grain yield, the highest (5.32 t ha') straw yield, the highest (9.18 t ha') biological yield and the highest (41.26 %) harvest index. Among the source of nitrogen treatments urea supergranules 1.8 g (N 1 ) produced the highest (2.04) benefit cost ratio and Sunrice 1 5OWG (W 3 ) produced the highest (2.24) benefit cost ratio among the weed control methods. en_US
