dc.description.abstract The experiment was carried out at the research farm of Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRJ). Gazipur. The study was conducted during November. 2005 to May. 2006 (E3oro season) to obtain information on variability and genetic diversity for yield and yield contributing characters. Significant variation among the genotypes were observed for all the characters. High heritability along with high genetic advance in percent of mean was observed for pamcle per plant, fertile grain per panicle. So these characters would be best for selection. Diversity was estimated by cluster distance. Significant variations were observed among the genotypes for all the studied parameters. Multivariate techniques were used to classify the forty genotypes of boro rice and is five clusters were formed. (luster Ill had maximum 21 genotypes and cluster I and IV had only one genotype respectively. The highest intra-cluster distance was observed in cluster III followed by cluster II. The highest inter-cluster distance was observed between the cluster IV and V and the lowest was between the cluster II and Ill. The characters such as yield per plant, days to 50% flowering, days to maturity were the important components of genetic divergence among the forty boro rice genotypes. Analyzing diversity pattern and other agronornic performance, the inter genotypic crosses between 031 and 65. 631 and 034: 01 and 026: G I and 65, G I and G34 may be used for future hybridization program. en_US
