dc.description A Thesis Submitted to Department of Entomology, Faculty of Agriculture. Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka- In partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTERS OF SCIENCE (MS) IN DEPARTMENT OF HORTICULTURE en_US
dc.description.abstract The experiment was conducted at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka-1207 during the period from September 2022 to February 2023 to examine the influence of vermicompost, trichocompost and compost on growth and yield of onion. The experiment consisted of 8 treatments viz. T (RDF; recommended doses of fertilizers = cowdung; 5 t ha -1 + urea; 150 kg ha -1 1 + TSP; 175 kg ha IX -1 + MoP; 200 kg ha + gypsum; 110 kg ha -1 + ZnO; 3 kg ha -1 ), T 2 (100% vermicompost; 10 t ha (100% trichocompost; 8 t ha -1 ), T 4 (100% compost; 12 t ha -1 ), T 5 -1 ), T (50% vermicompost + 50% trichocompost), T 6 (50% vermicompost + 50% compost), T 7 3 (50% trichocompost + 50% compost) and T 8 (33% vermicompost +33% trichocompost + 33% compost). The experiment was conducted in randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. A significant variation among the treatments was found. The highest plant height (64.52 cm) was recorded from the treatment T (RDF; recommended doses of fertilizers) while the highest number of leaves plant 1 -1 (18.75) was recorded from the treatment T . Similarly, the highest neck diameter (13.20 mm), bulb length (5.57 cm), bulb diameter (4.85 cm), fresh weight of bulb plant 8 -1 (59.07 g), dry weight bulb -1 (14.37%), yield plot -1 (2543.00 g) and yield ha -1 (21.19 t) were recorded from T 8 treatment followed by T 5 whereas the treatment T gave the lowest performance for the respected parameters. Again, the treatment T 8 3 also showed the highest gross return (Tk. 529750.00 ha -1 ), net return (Tk. 326425.00 ha -1 ) and BCR (2.61) whereas the lowest gross return (Tk. 375000.00 ha -1 ), net return (Tk. 167416.00 ha ) and BCR (1.81) were recorded from T (33% vermicompost; 3.33 t ha 3 -1 treatment. Considering results of the experiment, T -1 +33% trichocompost; 3.66 t ha -1 + 33% compost; 4 t ha -1 ) was the best treatment for producing greater onion bulb yield and monetary return. en_US
