Abstract:
The objectives of this study were to describe some selected characteristics of the guava
farmers; to determine the extent of guava yield losses as perceived by the farmers and
to find out the contributory factors of guava yield losses farmer selected characteristics.
The study was conducted with randomly selected 105 guava farmers in Chuadanga
sadar and Damurhuda upazilas of Chuadanga district. A pre-tested interview schedule
was used to collect data from the respondents during 28

November, 2022. Assessment of guava yield losses as perceived by the farmers was the
dependent variable and its was measured on the basis of guava yield losses scores.
Assessment of guava yield losses as perceived by the farmers and the ten selected
characteristics of the respondents contributed the independent variables of the study.
Multiple regression was used to examine the contribution of the selected characteristics
of the respondents. The highest proportion (54.28 percent) of the guava farmers
perceived medium loss followed by 21.91 percent low losses and 23.81 percent high
production losses. Three characteristics of the respondent’s viz. education, knowledge
on guava cultivation and problem faced in guava cultivation of the respondents had
significant contribution with their guava yield loss as perceived by the farmers.
