Abstract:
The field experiment was conducted at the Agronomy farm of Sher-e-Bangla
Agricultural University, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka-1207 during the period
from November, 2016 to May, 2017 to find out the influence of foliar boron
application on improvement of yield of hybrid rice. Two factors were used in
the experiment, viz., three rice varieties - V
1
(ACI hybrid 1), V
2
(ACI Sera) and
V
3
(BRRI hybrid dhan1) and five levels of boron application - B
0
(0%;
Control), B
1
(1.2% B), B
2
(1.5% B), B
3
(1.8% B) and B
4
(2.1% B). The
experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD)
with three replications. Data on different growth, yield and yield contributing
parameters were recorded. Different variety and application of boron
individually influenced plant height, number of leaves hill
-1
, leaf area index,
number of tillers hill
1
-1
, number of panicles hill
, dry weight of plant hill
-1
-1
, number of effective tillers hill
, panicle length, number of filled grains panicle
,
number of rachis panicle
-1
, grain yield, straw yield, biological yield and harvest
index. Combined effect of variety and application of boron also showed
significant effect on different parameters. Results revealed that the number of
effective tillers hill
-1
(18.60), the highest dry weight of plant hill
(72.84 g),
number of panicles hill
-1
(18.48), panicle length (23.16 cm), number of rachis
panicle
1
-1
(9.78), number of filled grains panicle
), straw yield (8.42 t ha
-1
-1
-1
(166.80), grain yield (7.88 t ha
), biological yield (16.30 t ha
-1
) and harvest index
(48.34%) were achieved from the treatment combination of V
2
. So foliar
boron application improves the yield of hybrid rice.
