dc.description.abstract A pot experiment was conducted in the experimental field of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka during the period from November 2019 to March 2020 to find out the effect of sowing times on phenological development and yield of wheat. The experiment comprised of two factors; Factor A: Variety- BARI Gom-26 (V ) and BARI Gom-28 (V 2 ); Factors B: Sowing time- 5 th November (S 1 ), 15 th ), 25 th November (S 3 ), 5 th December (S 4 ) and 15 th December, 2019 (S ). The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with four replications. Data were recorded and significant variation was observed for most of the characters studied. In the case of wheat varieties, the tallest and shortest plant (89.27 and 82.58 cm at harvest, respectively) was found from V 2 and V 1 5 treatment. Data revealed that the highest days to spike emergence (65.40) and days to maturity (107.80) were obtained from V whereas the lowest days to spike emergence (57.80) and days to maturity (104.80) were recorded from V 1 . The maximum and minimum grain yield (3.83 and 3.65 t ha -1 ) was recorded from V 2 2 and V . In respect of different sowing times, the tallest and shortest plant (89.25 and 83.38 cm at harvest, respectively) was observed from S 2 and S 5 1 treatment. The highest days to spike emergence (64.50) was obtained from S 5 and days to maturity (110.00) was obtained from S . The lowest days to spike emergence (58.50) was obtained from S 2 1 and days to maturity (102.50) were recorded from S 5 . The highest and lowest grain yield (4.05 and 3.42 t ha -1 1 November (S ) was observed from S and S treatment. Due to the combined effect of wheat varieties and sowing times, the tallest and shortest plant (92.67 and 79.75 cm at harvest, respectively) was observed from V 5 2 S 2 and V 1 S treatment combination. The highest and lowest days to spike emergence (69.00 and 55.00) was obtained from V 5 1 S 5 and V 2 S treatment combinations. The highest and lowest days to maturity (112.00 and 101.00) was obtained from V 2 and V 2 S treatment combinations. The highest and lowest grain yield (4.23 and 3.39 t ha -1 5 ) was observed from V 2 S 2 and V 1 S treatment combinations. BARI Gom-28 sown on 15 th November (V 2 S 2 5 ) showed best in performing yield and yield components. en_US
