The experiment was conducted in the experimental field of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural
University, Dhaka during the period from November 2019 to March 2020 to find out
the effect of NPK and benzylaminopurine on growth and yield of chickpea. The
experiment comprised of two factors; Factor A: NPK level (3); F
= Recommended
dose of NPK (20.70 kg N, 39.10 kg P
2
O
5
and 21 kg K
2
O ha
-1
), F
1
0
= 25% lower than
recommended dose of NPK (15.52 kg N, 29.33 kg P
2
O
5
and 15.75 kg K
) and
F
2
= 25% higher than recommended dose of NPK (25.87 kg N, 48.87 kg P
and
26.25 kg K
2
O ha
-1
); Factors B: Benzylaminopurine levels (4)-B
0
2
: Control, B
: 20 ppm
benzylaminopurine, B
2
: 60 ppm benzylaminopurine and B
: 100 ppm
benzylaminopurine. The experiment was laid out in a split plot design where different
levels of NPK was assigned to main plots and benzylaminopurine level to sub plots
with three replications. Data were recorded on growth, yield components and yield of
chickpea. The significant variations were observed for most of the characters studied.
In case of NPK fertilizer management, the maximum pod length (1.68 cm), seeds pod
(1.46), seeds plant
-1
(50.4), 1000 seeds weight (129 g) and seed yield (1.42 t ha
) were
obtained from the treatment F
(25% higher than recommended dose of NPK). In case
of benzylaminopurine, the maximum pod length (1.66 cm), seeds plant
2
(49.9), seeds
pod
-1
(1.44), 1000 seeds weight (128 g) and seed yield (1.39 t ha
-1
) were achieved from
the treatment B
(100 ppm benzylaminopurine). In respect of combined effect of
different levels of NPK and benzylaminopurine, the maximum pod length (1.83 cm),
number of seeds plant
3
-1
(56.6), number of seeds pod
-1
(1.55), 1000 seeds weight (139
g) and seed yield (1.55 t ha
-1
3
-1
) were obtained from the treatment combination of F
,
which were statistically similar to that of F
2
B
2
except 1000 seeds weight. So, F
is
the best combination as B
3
requires higher benzylaminopurine than B
