Abstract:
A field experiment was conducted at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka,
Bangladesh during the period from October 2019 to April 2020 to study the growth and
yield of groundnut varieties as influenced by seed size. The experiment was carried out in
split plot design considering three varieties i.e., V

= BARI Chinabadam-8, V
=
Binacheenabadam-4, V
= Binacheenabadam-6 in the main plot and four levels of seed
size viz. S
1
=Unsorted, S
3
2
= Small, S
3
= Medium, S
= Large in the sub plot replicated
three times. BARI Chinabadam-8 (V
1

) gave the highest pod yield (1917 kg ha
) which
was 29.44% and 16.04% higher than Binacheenabadam-4 (V
) and Binacheenabadam-6
(V
3
), respectively. Among the seed size, large seed (S
4
2
) scored the highest pod yield
(2110 kg ha
-1
), whereas small seed (S
2
) showed the lowest pod yield (1161 kg ha
),
which was 44.97% lower than S
4
. BARI Chinabadam-8 (V
) in combination with large
seed (S
4
) produced the highest pod yield (2473 kg ha

), whereas Binacheenabadam-4
(V

) in combination with small seed (S
2
) produced the lowest pod yield (1040 kg ha
),
which was 57.95% lower than treatment combination of V
1

. The higher pod yield was

and 100-seed weight. Results revealed that large seed (S
) could be the best for
groundnut production irrespective of varietal difference.
