dc.description A Thesis Submitted to the Department of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka in partial fulfillment of the requirement for the degree of MASTER OF SCIENCE (MS) IN AGRONOMY en_US
dc.description.abstract An experiment was conducted at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University research farm, Dhaka to study the effect of organic manure and inorganic fertilizers on the growth and yield of maize during March to July 2019. Seeds of SAU hybrid vhutta 1 were used as planting material. The experiment was consisted of single factor and laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. There were 11 treatments comprised with organic manure and inorganic fertilizers, They were T 0 = Control, T 1 = Recommended dose of chemical fertilizers (RDCF), T = Cowdung + RDCF, T 3 = Cowdung + 50% of RDCF, T = Cowdung + 75% of RDCF, T 5 = Vermicompost + RDCF, T ii 6 4 = Vermicompost + 50% of RDCF, T = Vermicompost + 75% of RDCF, T 8 = Poultry litter + RDCF, T = Poultry litter + 50% of RDCF, and T 10 9 = Poultry litter + 75% of RDCF. Data on plant height, SPAD value, dry matter weight plant -1 , cob to tassel length, tassel length, cob length, cob diameter, number of grains row cob -1 , number of grains row -1 , number of grains cob , 100 grain weight, grain yield, stover yield, biological yield and harvest index were taken. Results of the investigation revealed that, organic manure and inorganic fertilizers showed significant effect on most of the growth, yield and yield contributing characters of maize. The experimental result showed the maximum plant height at harvest (268.43 cm), SPAD value at 60 DAS (62.865), dry matter weight at harvest (296.60 g), cob to tassel length (137.98 cm), tassel length (20.490 cm), cob length (46.10 cm), cob diameter (4.3433 cm), number of grain rows cob of grains row -1 (31.047), number of grains cob -1 -1 -1 2 7 (15.203), number (458.61), 100 grains weight (29.477 g), grain yield (9.430 t ha -1 ), stover yield (10.84 t ha -1 ), biological yield (20.267 t ha -1 ) and finally harvest index (46.52 %) were observed from treatment T (Poultry litter + RDCF) but treatment T 10 (Poultry litter + 75% of RDCF), T (Vermicompost + RDCF) and T 7 5 ( Vermicompost + 75% of RDCF) showed statistically similar yield and some yield characters with T treatment. So it may be concluded that the treatment T 10 8 (Poultry litter + 75% of RDCF) or treatment T ( Vermicompost + 75% of RDCF) could be the best production package for achieving higher yield of maize. en_US
