dc.description.abstract An experiment was conducted in the experimental field of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka to determine the effect of different nitrogen fertilizer doses and various irrigation levels on growth and yield of mustard during the period from November 2019 to February 2020. The experiment consisted of four levels of nitrogen viz.control-0 kg N ha -1 (N 0 ), 90 kg N ha ii -1 (N 1 ),120 kg N ha -1 ) and 150 kg N ha -1 (N 3 ) and 3 levels of irrigation viz. control - no irrigation (I 0 ), one irrigation at 25 DAS (I 1 ) and two irrigations at 25 and 50 DAS (I 2 ). The experiment was laid out in two factors Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. Considering the application of nitrogen, N 2 (120 kg N ha -1 ) showed the best results in terms of yield and yield contributing parameters such as number of siliqua plant (78.30), length of siliqua (4.57 cm), number of seeds siliqua -1 (32.96), 1000 seed weight (4.53 g), seed yield (1.40 t ha -1 ) and harvest index (35.35%) whereas control treatment N 0 (0 kg N ha -1 (N 2 ) gave the lowest yield. Considering irrigation treatments I 2 (Two irrigations at 25 and 50 DAS) gave best results on growth, yield and yield contributing parameters. The highest number of siliqua plant -1 (78.78), length of siliqua (4.58 cm),number of seeds siliqua -1 (32.80), 1000 seed weight (4.46 g), seed yield (1.41tha -1 ), stover yield (2.62 t ha -1 ) and harvest index (34.95%) were recorded from I 2 whereas control treatment I 0 gave the lowest yield. Regarding combined effect, N 2 I 2 showed the highest number of siliqua plant -1 (87.63), length of siliqua (4.81 cm), number of seeds siliqua -1 (37.63), 1000 seed weight (5.00 g), seed yield (1.61 t ha -1 ), stover yield (2.73 t ha -1 ) and harvest index (37.62%) followed by N 3 treatment. Hence, the results summarized that different Nitrogen and/or irrigation levels had a significant and positive effects on growth, yield and yield contributing parameters of mustard and these can be considered essential practices for higher mustard production. en_US
