dc.description A Thesis Submitted to the Faculty of Agriculture, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF SCIENCE (M.S.) IN AGRICULTURAL BOTANY en_US
dc.description.abstract The experiment was conducted at the experimental field of the Department of Agricultural Botany, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka-1207, during the period from July 2019 to December 2019 in Aman season to observe the growth and yield performance of aromatic rice in response to variety and level of nitrogen. The experiment comprised of two factors viz. factor A: Varietis; V =Katarivog and V 3 =BRRI dhan34; factor B: Levels of nitrogen; N 0 ii 1 =Badshavog, V =0 kg, N =40 kg, N 2 =80 kg and N 3 =120 kg N ha -1 . V 3 (BRRI dhan34) exhibited its superiority over Katarivog in terms of grain yield, the former out-yielded V 2 (Katarivog) by 28.63% higher yield. V 3 (BRRI dhan34) also showed the highest number of tillers hill at harvest (17.16), the maximum leaf area index at harvest (5.49), the maximum CGR (5.19 g running m -1 day -1 ), the highest number of panicles hill -1 (14.10), the longest panicle (25.03 cm), the highest number of grains panicle -1 (145.45), the highest weight of 1000-grains (15.50 g), the maximum straw yield (5.93 t ha -1 ), the highest biological yield (7.92 t ha -1 ) and the highest harvest index (35.18%) than other tested variety (Katarivog).Significant differences existed among different levels of nitrogen with respect to growth, yield and yield attributing parameters of rice.Treatment N 3 (120 kg N ha -1 ) showed a yield advantage of 0.25 t ha -1 , 0.70 t ha -1 , 1.48 t ha⁻¹ over N 2 (80 kg N ha -1 ), N 1 (40 kg N ha -1 ) and N 0 (0 kg N ha -1 ), respectively, which was possibly aided by taller plant at harvest (123.13 cm), higher number of tillers hill -1 at harvest (17.16), higher leaf area index at 90 DAT (4.44), maximum CGR at 90 DAT (4.68 g running m -1 day -1 ), the highest number of panicles hill -1 (13.33), the longest panicle (24.14 cm), the maximum number of grain panicle -1 (144.1), the heaviest 1000-grain weight (14.38 g), the maximum straw yield (5.69 t ha -1 ) and the highest biological yield (8.3 t ha ). Combination of V 3 N 3 (BRRI dhan34 × 120 kg N ha -1 ) performed the best in all for higher yield in aromatic rice. en_US
