Abstract:
The purpose of the study was to assess the contribution of Haribhanga mango gardening on
farm income and to explore the contributing relationship between the farmers characteristics
and contribution of Haribhanga mango gardening on farm income. The study has been
conducted based on data collection in the selected villages of Rangpur Sadar upazila and
Mithapukur Upazila. Data were collected from 105 mango growers with structured
questionnaire from 2
nd
July to 21
st
July, 2021. Multiple regression was used to determine the
contribution of selected characteristics of the mango growers on farm income. The results
show that the highest proportion (70.5%) of the mango growers had medium contribution
while 15.2 percent and 14.3 percent of them had low and high contribution, respectively.
Among ten characteristics family size, knowledge on mango cultivation, experience in
Haribhanga mango cultivation and number of Haribhanga mango tree had positive significant
relationship while rest of the six characteristics i.e., age, educational qualification, size of
mango orchard, training on mango cultivation, organizational participation, time spent in
Haribhanga mango orchard management and number of Haribhanga mango tree had no
significant relationship to assess the contribution of Haribhanga mango gardening on farm
income. Therefore, it is recommended that the DAE, Horticultural Center, Mango Research
Station and NGOs should take necessary steps considering the significant variables with a
view to motivating the mango growers towards Haribhanga mango cultivation.
