dc.description A Thesis Submitted to the Department of Agricultural Botany Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF SCIENCE IN AGRICULTURAL BOTANY SEMESTER: JULY-DECEMBER, 2014 en_US
dc.description.abstract An experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of nitrogen and phosphorous on growth and yield of black cumin (Nigella sativa L.) using var.BARI Kalozira at the Farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka during November to March (Rabi season), 2013-14. The treatments consist of four levels of nitrogen application viz., 0, 30, 60 and 90 kg ha-1 and phosphorous viz. 0, 10, 20 and 30 kg ha-1. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design (factorial) with three replications. Nitrogen and phosphorous levels singly as well as in combination had significant effect on most of the characters studied. The tallest plant and maximum leaves plant-1 were recorded at 90 kg N ha-1 followed by 60 kg N ha-1 at different growth stages. Application of 90 kg N ha-1 gave the maximum primary and secondary branches plant-1, capsules plant-1, seeds capsules-1, 1000 seed weight and seed yield. Application of 60 kg N ha-1 produced identical results in respect of primary and secondary branches plant-1, capsules plant-1 and 1000 seed weight. 30 kg P ha-1 gave the highest plant height, leaves plant-1, secondary branches plant-1, capsules plant-1, seeds capsules-1, 1000 seed weight and seed yield which was closely followed by 20 kg P ha-1. Application of 90 kg N ha-1 coupled with 30 kg P ha-1 gave the maximum capsules plant-1 and seed yield which was statistically similar to those parameters obtained from 90 kg N ha-1 × 20 kg P ha-1, 60 kg N ha-1 × 30 kg P ha-1. en_US
