dc.description.abstract Soybean (Glycine max L.) is one of the most important sources of oil and protein and is commonly used in both human and animal diets. For better production of soybean, it is compulsory to focus on the application of different essential nutrients in the form of fertilizers. For this purpose, a research work was conducted at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University Farm, Dhaka during the period from March, 2019 to July, 2019 to study growth and yield of Soybean (BARI Soybean 4) as influenced by different levels of nitrogen and phosphorus. The experiment included three levels of nitrogen viz., 0, 25, and 40 kg N ha and four levels of phosphorus viz., 0, 18, 36 and 54 kg P ha -1 . The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. Nitrogen fertilizer had significant effect on growth and yield of Soybean. Application of nitrogen @ 25 kg ha -1 gave the highest plant height, number of leaves plant -1 1 , number of pods plant -1 , pod length, number of seeds pod -1 , number of branches plant , 1000-seed weight, seed yield and Stover yield. In all cases the lower values were found with the untreated control treatment. Phosphorus fertilizers also had significant effect on growth and yield of soybean. Application of phosphorus @ 54 kg ha -1 produced the highest plant height, number of leaves plant -1 , number of branches plant -1 , number of pods plant -1 , pod length, number of seeds pod -1 , 1000-seed weight, seed yield and Stover yield. In all the cases lower values were found with the control treatment. Nitrogen @ 25 kg ha -1 was found statistically superior to all other treatments. Nitrogen in combination with phosphorus showed significant effect on yield and yield attributes of Soybean. Combined application of nitrogen @ 25 kg ha -1 and phosphorus @ 54 kg ha -1 resulted the highest plant height, number of leaves plant -1 , number of branches plant -1 , number of pods plant , pod length, number of seeds pod -1 , 1000-seed weight, seed yield and Stover yield. -1 -1 en_US
