Abstract:
Fourty (40) genotypes of Brinjal were studied in the experimental field of Olericulture division
of Horticulture Research Centre (HRC) of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute, Gazipur,
during September 2018 to March 2019. There was significant variation observed for all the
characters within genotypes. Multivariate analysis was performed through principal component
analysis(PCA), principal coordinate analysis (PCO), canonical variate analysis(CVA) and cluster
analysis(CLSA). As per PCA, D
2
and cluster analysis, the genotypes were grouped to five
clusters. The highest inter-cluster distance was between cluster I and IV and lowest between II
and III. Cluster IV showed the maximum intra-cluster distance and I showed the lowest.
Regarding agronomic performance, different characters contribute increasing the higher yield of
brinjal. The height cluster yield mean observe from cluster I which include genotype SM 359,
SM 362, SM 364, SM 367, SM 378 used as advance line. This advance line further used for
development of high yielding OP (Open pollinated) variety in future. Due to the higher inter
cluster distance, the genotypes BARI Begun-6 from cluster I, SM 359, SM 362, SM 364, SM
367, SM 378 from cluster II and SM 323, SM 351, SM 365, SM 373, SM 387, SM 393, SM 398,
SM 399, BARI Begun-7, BARI Begun -8 from cluster IV would be suitable for efficient
hybridization programme.
