The experiment was conducted at the farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University,
Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka during the period from July to December, 2018 with a view
to study the effect of transplanting dates and seedling number hill
-1
on growth and yield
of aromatic rice varieties. The experiment consisted of three factors. Factor A: two
varieties viz. V
1
(BRRI dhan34) and V
2
(Tulsimala). Factor B: four transplanting date
viz. T
1
(14
th
August), T
2
(21
st
August), T
3
(28
th
August) and T
4
(4
th
September). Factor C:
three treatment of number of seedlings hill
-1
viz. S
1
(2 seedling hill
-1
), S
2
(3 seedlings
hill
-1
) and S
3
(4 seedlings hill
-1
). The experiment was laid out in RCBD (Factorial) design
with three replications. The results showed that variety, transplanting date and number of
seedlings hill
-1
had the significant effects on plant height, number of tillers hill
, dry
matter weight hill
-1
, total tillers hill
-1
, number of filled and unfilled grains panicle
, grain
yield, straw yield, and biological yield and harvest index. Results showed that V
2
(Tulsimala) transplanted on T
1
(14
th
August) with S
2
(3 seedling hill
-1
) produced tallest
plant (153.60 cm) and V
1
(BRRI dhan34) transplanted on T
4
(4
th
-1
September) with S
2
(3
seedling hill
-1
) provided shortest plant (107.44 cm). Interaction of V
1
gave
maximum dry matter weight hill
-1
(36.28 g) and minimum from V
2
T
4
S
2
(19.95 g). BRRI
dhan34 (V
1
) transplanted on 28
th
August (T
3
) with 3 seedling hill
-1
(S
2
) provided highest
number of total tillers hill
-1
(17.51), effective tiller hill
-1
(16.33), panicle weight (2.42 g),
number of grain panicle
-1
(263.7), number of filled grains panicle
-1
(206.33), grain yield
(5.01 t ha
-1
), and biological yield (13.88 t ha
-1
). V
2
T
1
S
3
provide highest straw yield (10.23
t ha
-1
). Minimum grain yield (2.09 t ha
-1
) and Biological yield (7.55 t ha
) were found
with the interaction of V
2
T
4
S
