dc.description.abstract The experiment was conducted at the Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University Farm, Dhaka, Bangladesh during November 2017 to February 2018 to study the effect of nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizer on yield components and yield in potato (Solanum tuberosum). Four nitrogen levels; N 0 = 0 kg N ha -1 , N 1 = 55 kg N ha -1 = 110 kg N ha -1 and N 3 = 165 kg N ha -1 and four Phosphorus levels; P 0 = 0 kg P ha = 25 kg P ha -1 , P 2 = 50 kg P ha -1 and P 3 = 75 kg P ha -1 were considered for the present study. The experiment was laid out in the two factors Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. Data on different growth, yield components and yield of potato were recorded. Most of parameters were significantly affected by different levels of N application. The highest tuber yield ha (23.67 t) were found from the treatment N 2 -1 , N -1 2 , P 1 (25.23 t) and marketable yield ha (110 kg N ha -1 ) compared to control treatment N 0 (0 kg N ha -1 ). P treatment also significantly affected all the studied parameters and the highest tuber yield ha -1 (23.43 t) and marketable yield ha (21.94 t) were achieved from the treatment P 2 (50 kg P ha -1 -1 ) compared to control treatment P (0 kg P ha -1 ). Considering combined effect of N and P, the highest plant height (65.65 cm), number of leaves hill -1 (72.55) and leaf area index (18.96), SPAD value at 50 DAS (52.18 at 50 DAS), number of tuber hill -1 (8.12), weight of tuber hill (213.1 g), weight of tuber plot -1 (8.53 kg), tuber yield ha (2726 t) was recorded from the treatment combination of N -1 -1 (28.42 t) and marketable yield ha 2 P 2 (110 kg N ha + 50 kg P ha -1 ) whereas lowest plant height (44.20 cm), number of stem hill -1 (2.94), number of leaves hill -1 (48.44), leaf area index (10.73), number of tuber hill -1 (4.48), weight of tuber hill -1 (80.78 g), weight of tuber plot -1 (3.23 kg), tuber yield ha (10.77 t) and marketable yield ha -1 (8.17 t) were found from the treatment combination of N (0 kg N ha -1 + 0 kg P ha -1 ). -1 -1 0 P 0 -1 0 -1 en_US
