dc.description.abstract The experiment was conducted at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, DhakaBangladesh during kharif-I season (March to July, 2017) to study the effect offertilizer and spacing on the morphological characteristics, yield contributingcharacters, yield and seed quality of mungbean. The experiment consisted of Factor A: Fertilizer management (4 levels); F 0 = N + P 2 O 5 (0 + 0) kg ha -1 (Control), F = N P 2 O 5 (15 + 30) kg ha -1 ( 25 % lower than recommended dose by BARI), F (20 + 40) kg ha -1 (Recommended dose by BARI), F 3 = N + P 2 O 5 2 1 = N + P (25 + 50) kg ha (25 % higher than recommended dose by BARI), and factor B: Plant spacing (3 levels); S = 30 cm ×10 cm, S 2 = 30 cm × 15 cm, S = 30 cm × 20 cm. The variety, BARImung6 was used in this experiment as the test crop. The experiment was laid out in a splitplot design with three replications where levels of fertilizer were assigned in the main plot and spacing in the sub-plots. The results indicated significant variations in plantheight, number of leaves plant -1 3 , number of pods plant -1 , pod length, number of seeds plant -1 , weight of 1000 seeds, seed yield, stover yield, biological yield, harvest indexgermination percentage, germination index, shoot length, root length, dry weight ofseedling and EC test due to fertilizer and/or spacing. Results also revealed that, N P 2 O 5 (25 + 50) kg ha -1 (F ) treatment significantly influenced the morphologicacharacters, yield contributing characters, yield and seed quality of mungbean. Thehighest seed yield (1.49 t ha 3 -1 ) was obtained from this treatment. On the other hand30 cm × 20 cm (S ) treatment significantly influenced the morphological characters, yield contributing characters but 30 cm × 10 cm (S 3 ) treatment influencesignificantly on yield which gives highest seed yield (1.44 t ha 1 -1 ) due to its high plant density. Among the treatment combination, N + P 2 O 5 (25 + 50) kg ha fertilizer with30 cm × 10 cm plant spacing (F 3 S ) seemed to be more promising for obtaining higheyield (1.97 t ha -1 1 ) and for having better quality seed production in mungbean. -1 -1 2 O en_US
