Abstract:
The study was conducted at the laboratory and Mushroom Culture House (MCH) of
die Department of Biochemistry, Sher-e-Bangia Agricultural University, Dhaka
during the period from January to May 2014 for a comparative study on different
'species of oyster mushroom. The experiment consists of Seven (07) species of oyster
mushroom. The experiment considered the following treatments- T1: P. Ilabellatus; T2:
P. sajor caju; T3: P. eryngii; T4! P. sapid us; T5: P. cystidiosus; ]'6: 1>. florida and T;: P.
ostreatus. Different species of oyster mushroom (Mushroom seed) was collected from
National Mushroom Development and Extension Center, Savar, Dhaka. The
experiment was.laid out in single factor Completely Randomized Design (CRD). Data
on different growth, yield contributing characters, proximate composition of
mushroom were recorded and statistically significant variation was observed for
different-treatments. The highest average number fruiting body per packet (55.20) was
observed frern T7, whereas the lowest (45.60) in 1'3. The highest average weight of
individual fruiting body (4.41 g) was found from T7 and the lowest (3.63 g) in Ta. TIle
highest biological yield (228.06 g) was found from T7 and the lowest .(201.97. g) in T3.
The highest economic yield (205.36g) was found from T7 and the lowest (177.11 g)
inTj, The highest BCR 4.lW) was found from 1:7while, the lowest i3CR (3.52) in Tl'
The highest protein content (24..93%) was found from T7, while the lowest (24.08%)
in T3. The highest lipid content (6.14%) was found from T7, while the lowest (5.72%)
in 1'3. The highest carbohydrate content (39.43%) was found from T3, while the Iowest
(36.56%) in T,: The highest nitrogen content (4.97%) was found from T7, while the
lowest (4.50%) in r,The highest phosphorus content (0.90%) was found from T7, \
while the lowest (0.75%) in 1'3. TIle. highest potassium content (1.37%) was found
from 1'7, while the lowest{l.Z! %) in 'f3. The highest calcium content (17;53 11lg/lQO
g) was found from T?, while the lowest calcium content (15.58 mg/IOo. g) was
observed in. TJ• The highest iron content (41.29 mg/IOO g) was observed from T7,
While the lowest (45.oi mg/IOO grin 1'3. The highest zinc content (15.91 mg/IOO g)
was observed from T7, while tire lowest zinc content (14..38 mg/lOO g) was recorded
in 1'3.' Arnong different species or oyster mushroom T7 (P. ostreatus), performed
significantly better ongrowth, yield, nutrient and mineral content followed compare io
the other species under the study .
