dc.description.abstract A field experiment was conducted at the Horticultural farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh during the period from November 2017 to February 2018.The experiment consisted of two factors. Factor A: three levels of plant spacing: S = 30 cm × 10 cm, S 2 = 30 cm × 15 cm and S = 30 cm × 20 cm and Factor B: four levels of phosphorus: P 0 = 0 kg P ha -1 (Control), P 1 3 = 40 kg P ha -1 , P 2 = 60 kg P ha = 80 kg P ha -1 were used for the study. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design with 3 replications. Spacing and phosphorus levels showed significant variation on different growth, yield and yield contributing parameters. The highest fresh pod yield (16.21 t ha -1 ) was found from the plant spacing, S 2 -1 and P where the lowest (12.71 t ha ) was from S 3 . For phosphorus, P 1 gave the highest fresh pod yield (16.41 t ha gave the lowest (12.22 t ha -1 ). For combined effect the highest fresh pod yield plot (1333.00 g) and fresh pod yield (18.51 t ha -1 ) were found from S 2 P where the lowest fresh pod yield plot -1 (826.00 g) and fresh pod yield (11.47 t ha -1 1 ) were recorded from S . Considering economic analysis, the highest benefit cost ratio (3.37) was also obtained from S where the lowest (2.16) from S 3 P . Thus, the findings indicated that the spacing (30 cm × 15 cm) and phosphorus (40 kg ha 0 -1 ) could be used for yield maximization of french bean in Bangladesh. -1 3 ) where P 3 P 0 -1 2 P -1 1 0 1 en_US
