Abstract:
The experiment was carried out at the Horticulture Farm of Sher-e-Bangla
Agricultural University, Dhaka during the period from October 2017 to March 2018.
The experiment consisted of two factors. Factor A: Four biochar treatment viz. B
0
(0 t
ha
-1
; Control), B
1
(2 t ha
-1
), B
2
(6 t ha
-1
) and B
3
(10 t ha
-1
) and three vermicompost
treatment viz. Vc
0
(0 t ha
-1
), Vc
1
(4 t ha
-1
) and Vc
2
(8 t ha
-1
). The experiment was laid
out in the two factors Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications.
Regarding combined effect of biochar and vermicompost application, all the studied
parameters including growth, yield and yield contributing parameters were
significantly influenced. In case of different levels of biochar the highest yield of
cabbage (48.08 t ha
-1
) was found from the treatment B
2
and the lowest yield of
cabbage (27.86 t ha
-1
) was obtained from the control treatment B
0
. For different levels
of vermicompost the highest yield of cabbage (46.45 t ha
-1
) was observed from the
treatment Vc
2
and yield of cabbage (33.98 t ha
-1
) was also achieved from the control
treatment Vc
0
. For combined effect the highest yield of cabbage (52.75 t ha
) was
obtained from B
2
Vc
2
and the lowest result was found from the treatment combination
of B
0
. In terms of economic analysis, the highest gross return (Tk.6,33,000) was
obtained from B
2
Vc
0
but the highest net return (Tk. 3,80,048) was obtained from the
treatment combination of B
1
Vc
2
Vc
1
with highest BCR (2.96) and the lowest BCR (1.25)
was obtained from B
3
has
Vc
2
treatment combination. So, it can be summarized that B
1
given the maximum output in terms of benefit cost ratio (BCR) and yield.
