dc.description A Thesis Submitted to the Faculty of Agriculture, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF SCIENCE IN AGRONOMY SEMESTER: JANUARY-JUNE, 2018 en_US
dc.description.abstract Zinc deficiency is widely spread in Banglabeshi paddy soils and has negative impact on national rice (Oryza sativa L.) production. A field experiment was conducted at the experimental plot of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka from December 2017 to May 2018 to evaluate the effects of different zinc application methods on growth and yield of boro rice. The experiment was consisted of two factors viz. - factor A. variety -3; (i) V 1 = BRRI dhan45; (ii) V 2 = BRRI dhan63; and (iii) V 3 = BRRI hybrid dhan3; and factor B. methods of Zn application 4; (i) F 0 = No zinc application; (ii) F 1 = Zn application through root soaking; (iii) F 2 = Zn application through foliar spray; (iv) F 3 = Zn application through soil application. The experiment was laid out following split-plot design with three replication where variety was assigned in main plot and zinc application methods in subplot. Data were collected on growth characters, yields attributes and yield of rice. The result revealed that BRRI hybrid dhan3 produced the highest yield (8.47 t ha -1 ) because of its higher panicle length (23.48 cm), grains panicle -1 (100.33), weight of 1000 seeds (29.33g), straw yield (9.10 t ha -1 ) and the lowest unfilled grains panicle -1 (6.84). On the other hand, Zn application through soil application produced the highest grain yield (7.73 t ha -1 ) and also produced the highest tillers hill -1 (14.49), panicle length (23.69 cm), filled grains panicle -1 (93.65) weight of 1000 seeds (27.03g), straw yield (8.00 t ha -1 ) along with the lowest unfilled grains panicle (7.32). Interaction of BRRI hybrid dhan3 × Zn application through soil application was found promising for producing the highest yield, yield attributes and growth characters of rice. -1 en_US
