Abstract:
A research was conducted in the experimental farm of Sher-e-Bangla
Agricultural university, by using ten F

& two F

populations during
November 2017-February 2018. The purpose of the experiment was to study
variation in yield, numbers of seed per plant of the F

, F

and F

select the plant with higher yield and short duration. Mean performance, range
and CV (%) of seed yield and yield contributing characters confirmed that there
were considerable variation existed among the genotypes used in the experiment.
The values of phenotypic variances were higher compared than the genotypic
variances. Days to 50% flowering, 80% days of maturity, number of branches,
number of secondary branches, number of siliqua per plant, number of seeds per
plant, thousand seed weight and yield per plant showed least differences between
genotypic and phenotypic variation. Moreover, the thirteen advanced
populations of Brassica rapa showed significant variation in mean which
provided opportunity to select promising populations for further higher yield
trial. Two short duration and desired high yield populations were selected. They
were SAU 2 x BARI 6 (F
6
, S
4
) and BARI 9 x BARI 6 (F
16
, S
5
, early). For future
trial BARI 9 x BARI 6 (F
16
, S
5
, early) can be selected as a parent.
