Abstract:
The experiment was conducted at the farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University,
Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka during the period from November 2012 to March, 2013
to study the response of Grasspea to the application of prilled urea and urea super
granules. The variety BARI Grasspea 3 was used as test crop. The experiment consists
of the following treatments: T
1
= Prilled urea (PU) broadcasted; T
= PU given
between two rows; T
= Urea Super Granules (USG) placed at 10 cm distance (avoid
one row); T
4
3
= USG placed at 10 cm distance (avoid two rows); T
= USG placed at 10
cm distance (avoid three rows); T
6
5
= USG placed at 20 cm distance (avoid one row);
T
7
= USG placed at 20 cm distance (avoid two rows); T
= USG placed at 20 cm
distance (avoid three rows); T

11
= USG placed at 40 cm distance (avoid one row); T
= USG
placed at 40 cm distance (avoid two rows) and T
= USG placed at 40 cm distance
(avoid three rows). USG was placed at 10 cm depth at each case. The experiment was
laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications.
Results showed that tallest plant 34.64, 40.30, 47.35, 59.32 and 65.49 cm were
obtained from T
7
14
i.e. USG placed at 20 cm distance (avoid two rows) and the shortest
plant 19.34, 27.30, 30.55, 38.11 and 57.01 cm from T
treatment i.e. USG placed at
40 cm distance (avoid three rows) at 30, 50, 70, 90 DAS and harvest, respectively.
Treatment T

also took minimum days (45.33 days) to flowering and it was
statistically identical with T
5
(47 days), T
6
(48 days) and T

13
(49.67 days), while T
treatment took maximum days (57.67 days). The highest pods plant
(54.48), seeds
pod

(4.87), weight of 1000 seeds (40.57 g), seed yield (1.94 t ha
-1
) and stover yield
(2.92 t ha

) was recorded from T

, while the lowest number of pods plant
(45.09),
lowest number of seeds pod
-1
(3.43), lowest weight of 1000 seeds (34.79 g), lowest
seed yield (1.19 t ha
-1
) and lowest stover yield (2.11 t ha
-1
-1
-1
) was observed from T
.
The study revealed that USG application showed better performance than prilled when
placed in two rows but not with broadcasted prilled urea.
