dc.description A thesis Submitted to the Faculty of Agriculture Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF SCIENCE (MS) IN AGRONOMY en_US
dc.description.abstract The present piece of work was conducted at the Agronomy Field of the Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka during the period from (November- February) 2011-2012. The experimental area is situated under the Modhupur Tract (AEZ-28). The study was conducted to compare the performance of different recommended managements on the growth and yield of mustard var. BARI Sharisha-13. The experimental treatments included T1 = Control (no modern managements), T2 = Fertilizer, irrigation, weeding, fungicide, mulching, insecticide, row arrangement), T3 = All managements except irrigation T4 = All managements except weeding, T5= All managements except line sowing, T6 = All managements except mulching, T7 = All managements except insecticide, T8 = All managements except fungicide, T9 = All managements except fertilizers, T10 = All managements except insecticide and fungicide, T11 = All managements except irrigation and weeding, T12 = All managements except irrigation, weeding and fertilizer, T13 = All managements except mulching and weeding, T14 = All managements except weeding and fertilizer, T15 = All managements except insecticide, fungicide and irrigation; and T16 = All managements except irrigation, weeding and insecticide. Results showed that treatment T6 gave significantly the maximum number of secondary branches (5.1), siliquae plant-1 (169) and chaff weight (3.1 t ha-1). Treatment T7 gave the maximum number of primary branches (4.4), siliquae plant-1 (162.3) at 70 DAS and stover yield (5.7 t ha-1). Treatment T13 gave the maximum biological yield (9.56 t ha-1). Seed yields of T5 (1.56 t ha-1), T6 (1.67 t ha-1), T7 (1.50 t ha-1), T2 (1.30 t ha-1), T4 (1.5 t ha-1), T8 (1.50 t ha-1) and T13 (1.56 t ha-1) were statically similar but significantly higher than other treatments. However, the benefit-cost ratio of T13 (2.59) was much higher than those of T5 (1.89), T6 (2.31), T7 (2.01), T2 (1.64), T4 (1.81) and T8 (1.85). en_US
