An experiment was conducted in the net house and the agro-environmental chemistry
laboratory of the Department of Agricultural Chemistry, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural
University, Dhaka-1207 during the Boro season of the year 2016-17 to evaluate the
influence of vermicompost and inorganic fertilizers on the mitigation of arsenic stress
in BRRI dhan47. The two factorial experiment was laid out in a Completely
Randomized Design (CRD) with three replications. Factor A: different doses of
arsenic on soil weight basis [As
0
=No arsenic applied, As
1
= 10 ppm arsenic, As
= 20
ppm arsenic, As
= 30 ppm arsenic] and Factor B: different doses of vermicompost
and inorganic fertilizers [T
3
= Recommended doses of vermicompost + inorganic
fertilizers, T
1
o
= Recommended doses of inorganic fertilizers without vermicompost,
T
2
= Recommended doses of vermicompost without inorganic fertilizers, T
=
Reduction of 40% of recommended doses of inorganic fertilizers + Addition of
vermicompost to supplement the reduction of inorganic fertilizers, T
= Reduction of
60% of recommended doses of inorganic fertilizers + Addition of vermicompost to
supplement the reduction of inorganic fertilizers]. Arsenic was added from Sodium
Arsenate (Na

HAsO

O). In case of fertilizers, T
gave higher results in most
growth, yield and yield contributing parameters (height, tiller number, effective tiller,
filled grain, 1000 grain weight, grain and straw yield) and T
2
gave lower results;
whereas for arsenic, maximum results were recorded from As
1
and minimum from
As
3
. In interaction, As
0
T
2
produced higher results and As
3
T
1
0
produced lower results in
most cases. The treatment T
gave higher N, P and K content in grain, straw and root
whereas, T
1
2
gave lower content; highest As content by T
1
4
and lowest by T
. In case of
arsenic content in grain, shoot and root, maximum results were recorded from As
and
minimum from As
. In interaction, the maximum N, P and K content in grain, straw
and root were found in As
0
0
T
2
and the minimum were observed from As
treatment;
whereas, highest As by As
3
T
1
and lowest by As
0
T

3
T

. Therefore, the treatment T
showed lower arsenic in grain, shoot and root and T
1
showed the highest content. |
