Abstract:
A field experiment was conducted at the experimental field of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University
during July to December 20 I 0 to find out the effect of I, 2 or 3 seedling(s) per hill on growth, yield
and yield components of a modern inbred (BRRI dhan49) and four hybrid (BRRI hybrid dhan2, Heera2,
Tia and Aloron) transplant Aman rice varieties. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete
block design with four replications. Results showed that rice cultivars differed significantly in some
characters at different growth stages, such as, tillers number, total dry matter weight, unfilled grain, grain
filling percentage and insignificantly in some characters at different growth stage, such as, chlorophyll
content, yield etc due to different seedling densities per hill. Numerically the higher grain yield was
attributed mainly to the number of effective tillers per hill, filled grains per panicle and 1000-grain
weight. Remarkable grain and straw yield were found from the interaction of.BRRI dhan49 planted I
seedling and 3 seedlings per hill respectively. Among the hybrid rice varieties, the maximum grain yield
was observed from the combination of BRRl hybrid dhan2 with I seedling per hill (V2Sd.
