Abstract:
The experiment was conducted at the net house of Soil Science Division of
Bangladesh Agricultural Research institute (BARI), Joydebpur, Gazipur-170l during the
period from September to December 2011 to study the performance of three blackgram
varieties with and without Bradyrhizobium inociulant. There were 15 treatment
combinations and 3 replications were laid out in 45 pots in the experiment arranged in
factorial randomized complete block design. The Bradyrhizobium strains of blackgram
BARI RVm-301, BARI RVm-302, BARI RVm-303 and mixed culture along with a
uninoculated control were used for the above experiment. The selected varieties were
BARI Mash-I, BARI Mash-2 and BARI Mash-3. All the varieties showed better
performance in presence of Bradvrhizohium inoculation. Among the three varieties.
BARI Mash-2 gave the highest seed yield. Bradyrhizobium strains performed better than
uninoculated treatment in respect of different parameters like nodule number and weight,
root weight and shoot weight, root length and shoot length, pod length and pods plant".
Bradvrhizobium inoculation significantly increased nodule number and weight, seed
yield, stover yield, plant height. 1000-seed weight, pods plant", seeds pod". N content in
seed and stover, N uptake by stover and seed. Among the three strains and mixed culture,
strain BARI RVm-302 gave the highest nodule biomass and seed yield. Interaction
effects revealed with BARI Mash-2 inoculated with mixed culture gave the highest seed
yield and N uptake while non-inoculated BARI Mash-I gave the lowest seed yield.
