A field experiment was conducted at Sher-e-l3angla Agricultural University Farm.
Dhaka during the period from December 2008 to April. 2009 to evaluate the effect
of? and S on the growth, yield and oil content of soybean. BARI soybean -5 was
used as test crop. The experiment comprised four levels of Phosphorus viz. 0. 15.
30,50kg ha" and four levels of Sulphur viz. 0. 10,20,40kg ha". Altogether there
were 16 treatment combinations and laid out following the Randomized Complete
Block Design with three replications.
Individual application of different levels of phosphorus and sulphur showed
significant effect in relation to yield and yield attributes studied. Plant height,
number of primary branch plant", number of leaves plant", stover yield. protein
content and P,K, S content in plants, available N, P. K content in post harvest soil
increased significantly up to 50 kg P ha" .On the other hand number of pods
plant", number of seeds plant", thousand seed weight, grain yield, biological
yield, oil content and N content in plant, available S content in post harvest soil
were increased significantly by the application of P up to 30 kg P ha
-1 . Effect of
Individual application of P on the soil pH and the organic C content in post harvest
soil was not significant.
The desired yield attributes viz, plant height, number of leaves plant". number of
pods plant". number of seeds plant", thousand seed weight, were increased
significantly by the application of S up to 40 kg S ha
-1
that were statistically
similar with the results found at 20 kg S ha
'
. So its wise and economic to use S
@20
kg S ha". Protein content and total P. S content in plant, available N, P. K, S
contents
in post harvest soil were increased significantly at 40 Kg S ha", On the
other
hand, no of primary branch plant", grain yield, stover yield, biological yield,
oil
content, total N, K content in plant and organic C were increased at the rate of
20
kg S ha" in most eases.
Interaction effects of phosphorus and sulphur on yield attributes were increased
significantly. Most of the growth, yield attributing parameters found to he
increased significantly by the combined application of 30 kg P ha" and 20 kg S |
