dc.description A Thesis Submitted to the Department of Soil Science Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF SCIENCE IN SOIL SCIENCE SEMESTER: JULY-DECEMBER, 2009 en_US
dc.description.abstract A field experiment was conducted at the Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University Farm. Dl1aka 1207 during the period from December 2008 to April 2009 to study the role of potassium and sulphur on the growth, yield and oil content of soybean (Glvcine max var.I3ARI soybean-5). The experimental soil was clay loam in texture having pH of 6.3. The experiment included four levels of potassium viz.. 0. 20. 40 and 70kg K ha" and Ibur levels of sulphur viz., 0. 10. 20 and 40 kg S ha". The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications. Potassium showed significant effect oil yield and yield attributes of soybean. Application of porassiLim 40 kg ha" produced the highest seed yield, plant height, number of primary branches plant". number or seeds plant", 1000-seed weight and straw yield. In all the cases lower response Was found from the control treatment. Sulphur of leaves plant". number of pods plant". number fertilizer also had significani effect oil yield and yield attributes of soybean. Application of sulphur d 20 kg ha" produced the highest seed yield. plant height, number of primary branches plant". number of leaves plant''. number of pods plant". number of seeds plant". 1000-seed weight and straw yield but in all the cases the lower response was found from the control treatment. Potassium in combination with sulphur showed signi [kant eliëct oil yield and yield attributes of soybean. Potassium i; 40 kg ha'' and sulphur (üJ 20 kg ha" resulted the highest seed yield, number of primary branches plant", number of leaves plant''. number olpods plant", number olseeds plant". 1000-seed weight. protein and oil contents of soybean except plant height. the highest plant height was observed with the application of potassitin) 'â 70 kg ha" and sulphur @ 20 kg ha" .On the other hand. in all the cases the lower response was found from the control treatment. The addition of K and S not only increased the yield but also protect the soil from total exhaustion of nutrients. en_US
