dc.description.abstract The present study involved fifteen F4 populations of rice (Oryza saliva L.) with three check varieties to select short duration and high yielding Aus varieties. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications in the experimental farm of Sher-e-Barigla Agricultural University (SAU), Dhaka during April 2014 to July 2014. Variability, correlation and path coefficient were analyzed mainly on the basis of days to maturity, yield/plant and yield(tTha) but other eleven characters also studied as these traits directly or indirectly contribute on yield. The lowest days to maturity (96.33 days) was observed in G4 (BR 21 xBR 24, F4, S 2P3 ) following as 03 (BR 21 xBR 24. F 4. S2P2) (97 days) and 02 (BR 21 xBR 24, F 4 , S2P1) (97.67 days). The highest yield among F 4 populations was recorded in 08 (BR 24xBR 26, F 4, S5P1 ) (5.7 ton/ha) following by 03 (BR 21 xBR 24, F4, S 2P2 ) (4.57 ton/ha) and 04 (BR 21 xBR 24, F 4 , S2P3) (4.37 ton/ha). The characters were observed and concluded that the phenotypic variances were higher than the genotypic variances. Phenotypic coefficient of variation (PCV) was also higher than the genotypic coefficient of variation ((iCV) for all the characters studied. High heritability with high genetic advance in percent of mean was found for total number of tiller/plant, total number of effective tiller/plant, number of secondary branchcs/ particle, total number of spikeleti panicle, number of filled grainl panicle, yield/ plant, yield(IJ ha) and moderate heritability with high genetic advance found in days to maturity The significant positive correlation with yield/ hectare were found in days to 80% maturity, number of secondary branches/ panicle, total number of spikcletipanicle, number of filled grain/ panicle and yield/plant. Path co-efficient analysis revealed that days to 80% maturity, number of secondary branches/panicle, total number of spikcletipanicle, number of filled grainl panicle and yield/ plant had the positive significant direct effect on yield(t/ ha) and as these parameters were also good for variability, heritability and correlation so, they may be used for further crop improvement practices. By comparing check varieties with segregating populations some better genotypes as 02, 03, 04, 08 and some individual plants from different populations were selected as early maturity and high yielding Aus rice (Oryza saliva L) for future trial. en_US
