USEFULNESS OF AGRICULTURAL NEWS STORIES AS PERCEIVED BY THE AGRICULTURAL STUDENTS

dc.description.abstract he purpose of the study was to have an understanding about the usefulness of agricultural news stories as perceived by the agricultural students. Besides, attempts were made to determine the relationship between the selected characteristics of the agricultural students and the usefulness of agricultural news stories as perceived by them. A structured interview schedule was prepared to collect data on the basis of objectives and selected variables. Data were collected from randomly selected 125 agricultural students of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University during February 10 to 5 March, 2008. Co-efficient of correlation test was used to explore relationship between the concerned variables. Among the respondents 13.6 percent belongs to the group of less useful group, 55.2 percent were moderate, 20.0 percent in the group of more useful group and the rest 11.2 percent respondents belongs to the group of most useful group. Academic achievement, family education, family annual income, social status and utilization of leisure period had no relationship with the degree of usefulness of agricultural news stories as perceived by the agricultural students, while newspaper reading habit and extent of newspaper reading habit had positive relationship. Among the respondents 16.8 percent of the agricultural students belonged to the group of medium academic achievement, 36.8 percent stay in the group of high academic achievement and 46.4 percent students belonged to very high academic achievement group. Total 96 percent of the respondent agricultural students' family belonged to high and very high family education. en_US
