dc.description.abstract The aim of ABSTRACT the study was to determine the problem confrontation of tuberose cultivation and also to explore the relationships between the selected characteristics of the farmers iii the Ilirmers and their problem confrontation in tuberose cultivation. 15 problems of the farmers in tuberose cultivation were selected. the selected characteristics were: age, education, family size, farm size, tuberose cultivation area, annual family income, experience in tuberose cultivation, training exposure. cosmopoliteness. media exposure, fatalism, level of aspiration and knowledge on tuberose cultivation. The study was conducted in Jhikargacha Upazila under Jessore district. Data were collected from randomly selected 105 farmers tising an interview schedule as the sample of the study from a population 450 farmers of Jhikargacha upazila tinder Jessore district. A structured personal interview schedule was used for collecting data that took 30 days from June I to June 30, 2008. Scale score was used to determine farmers' problem in tuberose cultivation while a problem confrontation Index (PCI) was used to make comparison among the 15 selected problems. Pearson's Product Moment Correlation coefficient (r) was used for the statistical analysis. An overwhelming majority (86.7 percent) of the farmers were found confronted high problem while (13.3 percent) of the farmers confronted medium problem in tuberose cultivation. However, no farmer of the study area was found having low problem. The findings also revealed that education, experience in tuberose cultivation, training exposure, cosmopoliteness, media exposure, knowledge on tuberose cultivation had negative significant relationships with their problem confrontation in tuberose cultivation. Rest of the characteristics i.e. age, family size. farm size, annual family income, tuberose cultivation area. latalism and level of aspiration showed no signilicant relationship. On the basis of problem confrontation Index (PCI) " Itiberose cultivation cost is high ranked first which is followed by ' In adequate credit supply ol'tuberose cultivation, lack of capital. lack of training opportunity while unavailability of bulbs in time ranked last. en_US
