dc.description.abstract Two experiments on gladiolus were conducted at BARI, Gazipur, Bangladesh during October 2013 to June 2014. First experiment includes performance of ten gladiolus genotypes in respect of growth, yield and yield contributing characters to select promising line 2 5 and V 6 4 , V 7 and V . 7, and V The highest vase life was found in genotype V 8 8 2 4 , V 7 , V 8 and V 7 9 and V followed by V 4 and V 9 4 , V 7 , V 8 and V were identified as good genotypes. For determining the proper preservatives, the second study conducted with ten treatments: T 9 = 3% sucrose, T 2 = 4% sucrose, T 3 = 100 ppm 8-HQS, T 4 = 200 ppm 8-HQS, T =25 ppm citric acid, T 6 = 3% sucrose + 100 ppm 8-HQS +25 ppm citric acid, T = 3% sucrose + 200 ppm 8-HQS +25 ppm citric acid, T = 4% sucrose + 100 ppm 8-HQS +25 ppm citric acid, T 9 8 =4% sucrose + 200 ppm 8-HQS +25 ppm citric acid and T = Control. A synergized effect of 3 % sucrose + 200 ppm HQS + 25 ppm citric acid proved effective in maintaining quality and increasing vase life of gladiolus up to 12 days. en_US
