dc.description.abstract The purpose of the study was to determine the extent of adoption of wheat cultivation by the farmers and to explore the relationships between farmers' characteristics and their adoption of wheat cultivation. Kaoaljani union under Basail Upazila of Tangail district was the locale of the study. Data were collected from 125 farmers randomly selected by using interview schedule during 10th February to 10th march 2006. ABSTRACT The finding revealed that about three-fourth (7i.2%) of the growers had medium adoption, 13.6 percent had low and 15.2 percent had high adoption of wheat cultivation .Computed 'r' value depicts that selected characteristics of the farmers, namely, farm size, annual income, extension media contact, cosmopolitcness, agricultural knowledge, attitude towards wheal cultivation and innovativeness had significant positive relationship with the adoption of wheat cultivation. Age, education and family size had no significant relationships with the adoption of wheat cultivation. More than two-thirds (68 percents) of the growers faced medium problems, 20 percent faced low and 12 percent faced high problem confrontation regarding adoption of wheat cultivation. Ten problems indicated by the growers, which they are confronting related to wheat cultivation. Wheal growers confront s major problems in descending order or importance were: (1) Lack of subsidy (2) Lack of sufficient machineries and tools for wheat cultivation (3) Inadequate help from Sub-Assistant Agricultural Officcrfq) Inadequate irrigation in dry season (5) Scarcity of modern variety of seed, fertilizer and pesticides when they are needed. en_US
