Abstract:
The study was carried out to assess the extent of attitude of rural women in goat
rearing. Relationships between nine selected characteristics of rural women with
their attitude in goat rearing were measured. Problems faced by the rural women '
towards goat rearing were also studied for better understanding of the situation.
Data were collected from a proportionate random sample of hundred housewives
of three villages of Gangni Upzila under Meherpur district. The extent of attitude
of rural women in 20 items of goat rearing was measured through a five point
l.ikert-type scale. A comparative attitude index was computed in twenty
statements by using attitude scale. Co-efficient of correlation 'r' was computed to
find out relationship between attitude of rural women in goat rearing and their
selected characteristics.
The highest percentage (65%) of the rural women had moderate favorable attitude
in goat rearing. Rest of the 29% and 6% respondents were favorable and less
favorable categories respectively.
Age, farm size, family income, credit availability, grazing land availability of the
rural women had no significant relationship with their attitude in goat rearing.
However, education and knowledge about goat rearing of the rural women had
positive relationship with their attitude towards goat rearing and the relationship
was highly significant. Besides, family size and communication exposure of the
rural women were significant. ''Goat dies due to plague disease" occupied first
position among the problems in goat rearing.
