Abstract:
The field experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory. Sher-el3angia
Agricultural University (SAU). Sher-e-Bangla Nagar. Dhaka during the
period
from Jwie, 2008 to December. 2008 to study the effect of storage durations
of
uprooted rice seedlings at different ages on the performance of BRRI dhan3
and
I3RRldhan34 tinder Modhupur tract (AEZ 28). The experiment comprised
three
different factors viz. A. Variety (2): BRRI dhan3l (V
1
) and BRRI dhan34
(A2) and
C. Storage durations (4): 0. 2, 4 and 6 days alter uprooting (D
0, D2, D
4
and D6
(V2
). B. Seedling age (2): 30 days old seedlings 0 ,) and 40 days old seedlings
respectively). The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block
Design (Factorial) with three replications. Results indicated that BRRI dhan3l
performed better than BRRI dhan34. BRRI dhan3l produced significantly
higher number of total tillers hill', effective tillers hill

. weight of 1000
grains, grain yield (4.41 t hi'). straw yield and biological yield and harvest
index..he results also revealed that 30 days old seedlings showed the better
performance than 40 days old seedlings. In respect of the longer panicle
(26.64 cm) and the higher number of total grains panicle

(160.26), number
of filled grains panicl&' (134.84), weight of 1000-grain (20.22 g) and grain
yield (4.38 t hi'). Among the storage durations of uprooted rice seedlings, 0
days storage durations showed best performance. Showing higher plant height
(126.66 cm), number of total grains panicl&' (158.86), number of filled grains

(138.54),
1000-grain weight (20.62 g), grain yield (3.98 t hi'), straw
yield (6.68 t ha'). biological yield (10.66 t ha

) and harvest index (37.33%)
were found from 0 days storage duration. It was coiieluded that BRRI dhan3l
with 30 days old seedlings stored for up to 4 days and 40 days old seedlings
stored fbr 2 days showed no yield loss. Seedlings of BRRI dhan34 variety
could be stored for 2 days of both aged seedlings.
