Abstract:
A field experiment was conducted at the Shcr-c-I3angla Agricultural University farm.
Dhaka. during October 2008 to April 2009 to study the effect of variety and sowing
date on growth and yield of lentil. The study included four varieties, viz.. BARI
Masur-3. BARI Masur-4. BARI Masur-5 and BARI Masur-6. and Ibur sowing dates.
vi
... 06 November. 16 November, 26 November and 06 December. The experiment
was laid-out in Randomized Complete Block Design. The growth parameters were
studied at 20. 30, 40, 50. 60 days atier sowing (DAS) and at harvest. Results showed
that variety and sowing date had signilicant influence on all the plant characters
studied. the plant height, number of branches per plant. dry matter content in plant at
all the growth stages, seed and stover yield were found highest in BARI Masur-6 and
lowest in BARI Mastir-3: whereas. these parameters were found highest and lowest on
sowing 26 November and 06 December. respectively. Sowing BARI Masur-6 on 26
November gave the highest seed (2.60 t ha'') and stover (3.42 t ha'') yield that similar
to the same variety sowing on o6 November and 16 November; whereas, sowing
BARI Masur-3 on 06 December gave the lowesi seed yield. Results suggested that
sowing BARI Masur-6 on 06 to 26 November was desirable for higher seed yield
under AFZ 28 conditions.
