Abstract:
An experiment was carried out at the Agronomy Field of Sher-e-Bangla
Agricultural University. Ohaka during November 2007 to March 2008 to
evaluate the eftbct or variety and nitrogen levels on growth, yield attributes and
yield of wheat. The treatments consisted of four nitrogen levels (0, 120, 160 and
200 kg ha
d
) and three wheat cultivars (Shourav. Shatabdi and Protiva). The soil
was clay loam. The experiment was laid out in a RCBD (Ictorial) design with
three replications. Each plot received fertilizers @20 kg P. 60kg K. 10 kg S and
1.5 kg Zn ha through TSP. MP
. gypsum and ZnO. respectively. Results
revealed that the yield and yield contributing characters of wheat showed
positive response with an increase in nitrogen levels up to 160 kg N hi'. The
highest grain yield (3.32 t hi') was obtained from 160 kg N hi'. whereas the
lowest (1.5 It hi5 from 0 kg N hi'. The variety Shatabdi produced the highest
grain yield (3.63 t hi') and Protiva produced the lowest grain yield (3.12 t hi').
The interaction between variety and nitrogen levels significantly influenced
almost all the growth and yield attributes showing the highest grain yield (3.48
hi') from the variety Shatabdi with 160 kg N hi'. The lowest grain yield (2.32 it
hi') was obtained from the variety Shatabdi with 0kg N hi'.
