dc.description.abstract The experiment was conducted at the farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka. Bangladesh during the period March to May 2007 to study the effcci of nitrogen and phosphorus on the growth and yield of munghean. The variety Barimung-5 was used at the test crop. The experiment consists of two factors: Factor A: Nitrogen (4 levels) 0 (N,,). 10 (N 1 ). 20 (N2) and 30 (N3 ) kg N haS' and Factor B : Phosphorus (4 levels) : 0 (P1 ). 20 (P1 ) 40(P2 ). and 60 (Th) kg P 2 0 haT The experiment was conducted following RCBD thctorial design with three replications. The result revealed thatapplication of N 3 (30 kg N haS') showed highest plant heigh t (68.28cm). leaf area (1716.45cm2 ). total dry matter planf 1 (470.03g), number of pods plant 1 (17.48). pod length (7.28 cm). 1000-seed weight (25.74 g), seed yield (1.30 t hi') and stover yield (3.67 t hi'). On the other hand. N0 (0kg N hi) showed lowest plant height (52.74 cm), leaf area (1223.99 cmi, total dry matter plant" (361.73g), number of pods plant ' (14.04), pod length (5.32cm), 1000seed weight (18.82 g), seed yield (0.91 t ha') and stover yield (2.94 t hi'). The result also revealed that P. (60 kg P 2O hi') showed highest plant height (70.19cm). left area (1792.69 cm2 ), total dry matter plant' (495.64g), number of pods plant' (17.85). pod length (7.42 cm). 1000-seed weight (24.91 g). seed yield (1.22 t ha ) and stover yield (3.63 t ha'). On the other hand. P,, (0kg P203 ha') showed lowest plant height (49.20 cm), leaf area (1183.37 cm). dry matter plant' (348.28g), number of pods plant -' (13.23), pod length (4.94 cm), 1000-seed weight (19.10 g). seed yield (0.98 t ha') and stover yield (3.04 t ha'). The interaclion o!N 2 P (20 kg N ha1 x 60 kg P 205 ha') showed highest plant height (80.64cm), leaf area (2 t 16.60 cm 2 ). dry matter plant" (575.79 g), number of pods plant- (19.80), pod length (8.36 cm), 1000-seed weight (28.79 g) . seed yield (1.40 t ha ) and stover yield (4.04 t ha'). On the other hand. NP 0 (0 kç N ha1 x 0 kg P205 hi') showed lowest plant height (43.45 cm), leaf area (1036.54 cnr). total dry matter plant" (319.89 g), number of pods rlant' (12.00), pod length (4.43 cm). 1000seed weight (15.86 g), seed yield (0.77 t hi ) and stover yield (2.61 t hi'). en_US
