dc.description.abstract An investivation was carried out to evaluate the effect of P levels on root growth, dry matter accumulation, nutrient uptake pattern and yield of mnungbean varieties at the research held of Shcr-c-Bangla Agricultural University. Slier-c liangla Nagar. Dhaka during kharif IL season of 2006. Four varieties of mungbean (BAR! mung-2. BARI mung-6. BU mung-4 and I3LN.A rnung-5) and four levels of phosphortts (0. 9. IS and 27 kg P ha 4 ) were the treatment variables. i'he experiment was laid out in a split plot design with 3 replications. Varieties were randoml arranged to the main plot and phosphorus levels in the sub plot. Plant growth. yield and yield attributes were signihicantly influenced by dilièrent varieties. The highest root growth, unal dry matter production, nodule number and dry weight were obtained from the variety BU mung-4. higher pod length. pods plant''. seeds pod" and 1000 seed weight were also recorded lbr BU mung-4. [he highest seed yield was found in 131-1 mung-4. Over all performance of BU mung-4 was better than other three varieties indicating the genetic superiority. The growth. yield and yield attributes increased with increasing levels of P up to 27 kg Application of 27 kg P ha'' gave the highest yield and yield attributes which was similar to 18 kg I' ha''. The contents of NPK in munabean stem. leal and seed varied significantly due to the variations in P rates. Application of 27 kg P ha" I also gave the highest content of NPK. Variety l3L mung-4 responded favorably to P I'ertilization upto 27 kg P ha" in terms of root growth, dry matter. yield and yield attributes and it was statistically identical with 18 kg P ha". The experimental results suggest that application of 18-27 kg P ha" lbr RI.) mung-4 would he needed for obtaining moderate yield on Grey Terrace Soil of ALL- 28. en_US
